Volunteering at Habitat

There are so many volunteer opportunities for those looking to become involved with Habitat for Humanity!

While our weekend builds are filled up with volunteers for the semester, there are several other volunteer options: volunteering at the ReStore, Weekday construction projects, and fundraising events.

In the Restore, you can either be a general volunteer or work with Mr. Green! A general volunteer would load and unload inventory, move furniture, sort new donations, and clean and organize the ReStore. This volunteer opportunity is available Monday-Saturday, 9 am- 5 pm. For the other ReStore opportunity, you would be working with Mr. Green, a carpenter by trade, who came to us from the Athens Community Counsel on Aging. Mr. Green takes pieces of furniture that needs minor improvements and refurbishes them. If he can’t repair it, he creates a completely new piece of furniture, using the parts he has salvaged! He works from 9 am- 1 pm and takes volunteers Wednesday-Friday. These volunteers would work along side Mr. Green and help with any refurbishing/fabrication done to the furniture.

You can also volunteer for weekday construction projects. These volunteers would help work on smaller scale home repairs, the E.H.A.R.P program (in which we build ramps for the disabled in the Athens Area), Brush with Kindness (smaller scale emergency home repairs), and possibly help our employees renovate our rental properties on the weekdays!

Fundraisers are always a fun way to volunteer at Habitat. We have a number of fundraising events throughout the year as well as annual events and always need volunteers to come help out.

Lastly, we have our big Saturday builds! These volunteers would be involved in building Habitat for Humanity homes, which is a large scale construction job. These spots fill up extremely fast, so you have to sign up early! We meet on Saturdays, 8:45 am-3 pm. You can sign up for one weekend or many!

We have volunteer forms on our website, so if you are interested, sign up today!
