Committee of 1,000

If you’ve ever searched for a way to help one in need, then we have the perfect opportunity for you! You can help buy a struggling family a new home through one of our biggest fundraisers of the year: The Committee of 1,000. In 2010, Athens Habitat’s first Committee of 1,000 built a new home for Diala Rahming and her four children. Last year’s Committee helped invest in the construction of Athens Habitat’s 76th house in the Athens Area– the Beau Harvey Memorial Home, for Shevonda Brown and her three children.

At this point I bet you’re wondering how you can possibly give someone a home through one fundraising event. How does it work? With just sixty-seven dollars, you can actually pay for a new house for a deserving family! While this may seem like a small amount for a house, it is made possible by the help of 999 other friends who have decided to contribute to this cause as well. One Habitat Home is approximately sixty-seven thousand dollars, so a sixty-seven dollar donation from one thousand people can entirely cover the cost! These donations will allow us, with the help of the family, build them a new three bedroom house. Each and every person involved in this fundraiser will be playing a huge role in a life changing event for a family. Not only will you be giving them a house– a safe place to share meals and to sleep in warm beds, but you will be giving them a home- a place to call their own.

As you can see, this is a remarkable event that has the power to change lives. We invite you to consider joining the 2013 Athens Habitat Committee of 1,000. If this is an event you are interested in, please do not hesitate to contact us, as we are hoping to have formed our Committee by January 16, 2013! If you are able to join us in this mission, we will invite you to an evening out at the Georgian on January 23, 2013 in order to show our appreciation! From 6:30 to 8:30 PM you can come enjoy live entertainment by The Rand Lines Trio and a dinner catered by Trumps Catering!

Thank you again to all of our volunteers and donors! We cannot emphasize enough the difference that is made by the contribution of every single person. Our gratitude is unparalleled.
