Twilight 2013

The Terrapin Twilight Bike Race is one of the most popular events in Athens, and it benefits Athens Habitat for Humanity! This year, the 2013 Twilight Bike Race will be on April 26-27th. While the main event is the bike race, there are also many other events in Athens for the race. The Athens Orthopedic Clinic 5K run begins Saturday morning and is open to participants of all athletic levels! There is also a Specialty Paint and Bike Ride, in which you can take either a 50K or 100K ride through northeast Georgia’s beautiful countryside! And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can participate in the Twiathlon, which is a combination of both the 5K run and then the Specialty Paint and Bike Ride! There is even a BMX contest downtown on Saturday! As if all of these fun events weren’t enough, the Twilight Criterium has teamed up with Athens Americana and will be hosting a Twilight Americana Music Festival on Friday and Saturday at the corner of Washington and College Avenue.

In addition to all of the festivities going on downtown this weekend, we have decided to add another to the list! We have teamed up with Dirty Birds Wings and will be holding our 1st Annual Charity Wing Eating Contest! We are looking for some serious wing eaters to volunteer to be apart of this event! As a contestant, you are responsible for collecting sponsor pledges to raise money and turning that money in after the contest. The minimum donation to participate is $250 per contestant. As a contestant, you will recieve as many wings as you can eat during the 30 minute contest period, a Dirty Birds’ t-shirt, a sponsor gift bag, unlimited drinks during the competition, and any of a wide assortment of prizes depending on the amount collected- and of course, special prizes will be given to the first place winners of the most wings eaten & donations collected by 1) a small business, 2) greek organization, and 3) independently! If you are interested in signing up, contact Ryan Heron by phone at 619-651-3440 or email at dirtybirdsathens@gmail.com.

We are actually still looking for volunteers to help out with setting up and cleaning up many of the projects associated with this event! If you’re interested in lending a helping hand, click here to sign up! We would also like to take a moment to thank everyone involved with this event- this type of support from the community is what allows us to continue on our mission to help those in our commmunity who are in need! Twilight is one of the greatest events in Athens and you won’t want to miss out! We hope to see you there!
