Athens Area Habitat for Humanity, First Presbyterian Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church West and the Presbyterian Student Center at UGA broke ground on the 83rd Athens Area Habitat home Saturday July 11th. This was the first day of what will be a 4 month process of building a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home for hardworking Athens residents Godwin and Mellissa Bishop and their 2 sons.
It was a hot day, but staff and volunteers not only fellow-shipped and shared the experience of building a home and giving back, they were also blessed with inspiring messages from AAHFH Executive Director Spencer Frye, First Presbyterian Church Associate Pastor Dr. Carol Strickland and Ebenezer Baptist Church West Senior Pastor Dr. Winfred Hope. This is the 3rd time P.E.P. has partnered with AAHFH to build a home in the Athens Area. Dr. Winfred Hope has been on site for all 3 builds and hopes to be around for many more. Even though Dr. Carol Strickland suffered from a previous hand injury, it didn’t stop her from chipping in where she could. Much thanks goes out to P.E.P. for their many years of service in our community. We encourage any other church or organization interested in how they can partner with Athens Area Habitat for Humanity to contact us at pr@athenshabitat.com.
